Verse 1

जय गणेश गिरिजा सुवन, मंगल मूल सुजान।कहत अयोध्यादास तुम, देहु अभय वरदान॥

Jai Ganesh Girija Suvan, Mangal Mool Sujaan.Kahat Ayodhyadas Tum, Dehu Abhay Vardaan.

Victory to Lord Ganesha, son of Goddess Parvati (Girija)! You are the source of all auspiciousness. Ayodhyadas prays to you to grant the boon of fearlessness.

Verse 2

जय गिरजापति दिनदयाला।सदा करत सन्तन प्रतिपाला॥

Jai Girijapati Deendayala.Sada Karat Santan Pratipala.

Victory to the Lord of Goddess Girija, who is compassionate towards the poor and always protects the saints and sages.

Verse 3

भाल चन्द्र सोहत नीके।कानन कुण्डल शोभित नीके॥

Bhaal Chandra Sohat Neeke.Kaanan Kundal Shobhit Neeke.

The crescent moon looks beautiful on your forehead, and your ears are adorned with splendid, glowing earrings.

Verse 4

अङ्ग गौर शिर गङ्ग बहाये।मुण्डमाल तन क्षार लगाये॥

Ang Gaur Shir Gang Bahaye.Mundamal Tan Kshaar Lagaye.

Your body has a fair complexion, and the holy Ganga flows from your matted locks. You wear a garland of skulls and ash smeared over your body.

Verse 5

वस्त्र खाल बाघम्बर सोहे।छवि को देख नाग मुनि मोहे॥

Vastr Khaal Baghambar Sohe.Chhavi Ko Dekh Naag Muni Mohe.

You wear a tiger skin as your garment. Beholding your magnificent, divine image, sages and celestial serpents are enchanted.

Verse 6

शशिशेखर छवि तुङ्ग अनूपा।आदि रूप हर देव स्वरूपा॥

Shashishekhar Chhavi Tung Anoopa.Aadi Roop Har Dev Swaroopa.

The image of the one who bears the crescent moon on his forehead is unique and matchless. You are the primordial lord, who takes away all sufferings.

Verse 7

ऋण मुक्ति जो कोई चाहे।पाशुपत अस्त्र से शत्रु नसावे॥

Rin Mukti Jo Koi Chaahe.Paashupat Astr Se Shatru Nasaave.

Whoever desires freedom from debt or wants to defeat their enemies receives the grace of your powerful weapon, the Pashupatastra.

Verse 8

नित्त नेम कर प्रातः ही।पाठ करे शिव चालीसा॥सब सुख लहे जग में वही।भक्ति बढे दिन दूना॥

Nitt Nem Kar Praatah Hee.Paath Kare Shiv Chalisa.Sab Sukh Lahe Jag Mein Vahee.Bhakti Badhe Din Doona.

Whoever recites this Shiva Chalisa every morning as a regular daily spiritual practice receives all kinds of happiness in this world, and their devotion increases day by day.

Verse 9

एक समय की बात सुजाना।शम्भु गये गिरिराज निशाना॥

Ek samay ki baat sujana.Shambhu gaye Giriraj nishana.

Once upon a time, Lord Shiva visited the majestic mountain range of Himavan.

Verse 10

वहां तपस्या कीन्ही भारी।देवन देखि डरे त्रिशूलधारी॥

Wahan tapasya keenhi bhaari.Devan dekhi dare Trishuldhaari.

There he performed intense penance, seeing which the gods became awestruck by the Lord who wields the trident.

Verse 11

भगीरथ की तपस्या प्यारी।गंगा लायी जगत उधारी॥

Bhagirath ki tapasya pyaari.Ganga laayi jagat udhaari.

Appreciating King Bhagirath's hard penance, you held the Ganga in your locks to save the world.

Verse 12

दक्ष यज्ञ तब नाश कराया।सती वियोग शोक उपजाया॥

Daksh yajna tab naash karaaya.Sati viyog shok upjaaya.

You destroyed King Daksha's sacrifice when Goddess Sati left her body, causing intense grief.

Verse 13

भीम रूप धरि असुर संहारा।त्रिपुरासुर को मारि गिराया॥

Bheem roop dhari asur sanhaara.Tripurasur ko maari giraaya.

Taking a giant form, you slew the mighty demons and defeated the evil Tripurasura.

Verse 14

कामदेव को भस्म कराया।रति का विलाप सुन दया दिखाया॥

Kamadev ko bhasm karaaya.Rati ka vilaap sun daya dikhaaya.

You burnt Kamadeva to ashes with your third eye, yet showed mercy to his consort Rati upon hearing her lamentations.

Verse 15

गिरिजा संग ब्याह रचाया।नन्दी पर चढ़ शम्भु आया॥

Girija sang byaah rachaaya.Nandi par chadh Shambhu aaya.

You married Goddess Girija (Parvati), arriving majestically riding on your sacred bull, Nandi.

Verse 16

कार्तिकेय और गणेशा।दो सुत सुन्दर हरत कलेशा॥

Kartikeya aur Ganesha.Do sut sundar harat kalesha.

Your two beautiful sons, Kartikeya and Ganesha, remove all obstacles and troubles from our lives.

Verse 17

नारायण को चक्र सुहाया।हरि हर रूप जगत मन भाया॥

Narayan ko chakra suhaaya.Hari Har roop jagat man bhaaya.

You bestowed the Sudarshana Chakra upon Lord Vishnu; the unified Hari-Hara form captivates the universe.

Verse 18

अमृत मन्थन काल सुजाना।विष पीकर नीलकण्ठ कहाना॥

Amrit manthan kaal sujana.Vish peekar Neelkanth kahaana.

During the churning of the cosmic ocean, you drank the deadly poison, saving the universe, and became known as Neelkanth.

Verse 19

पार्वती जब तपस्या कीन्ही।अर्द्धाङ्गिनी रूप वर दीन्ही॥

Parvati jab tapasya keenhi.Ardhangini roop var deenhi.

When Parvati performed severe penance, you blessed her by accepting her as your divine half.

Verse 20

व्याघ्र चर्म सोहे कल्याणा।भूत पिशाच संग श्मशाना॥

Vyaghra charm sohe kalyaana.Bhoot pishach sang shmshaana.

Adorned in tiger skin for the welfare of all, you wander with spirits and ghosts in the cremation grounds.

Verse 21

त्रिपुर विनाशन हे त्रिपुरारी।दुष्ट दलन शिव मङ्गलकारी॥

Tripur vinaashan he Tripuraari.Dusht dalan Shiv mangalkaari.

O destroyer of the three demon cities, Lord Tripuraari! You destroy the wicked and bring absolute auspiciousness.

Verse 22

डमरू बाजे बाजे नादा।हरहु दुःख सब कठिन विषादा॥

Damru baaje baaje naada.Harahu dukh sab kathin vishaada.

Your sacred damru beats with cosmic sound; please take away all our sorrows and difficult troubles.

Verse 23

त्रिशूल धारि प्रभु विपदा टारे।शरणागत के काज संवारे॥

Trishul dhaari prabhu vipada taare.Sharanagat ke kaaj sanwaare.

Holding the trident, you avert all dangers and perfectly accomplish the tasks of those who seek your shelter.

Verse 24

कल्याण रूप सदा सुखदाता।तुम ही बन्धु तुम ही पितु माता॥

Kalyaan roop sada sukhdaata.Tum hee bandhu tum hee pitu maata.

O embodiment of auspiciousness and giver of happiness! You are our brother, our father, and our mother.

Verse 25

महादेव प्रभु अवढर दानी।सेवक की विनती मन मानी॥

Mahadev prabhu avadhar daani.Sevak kee vinati man maanee.

O Lord Mahadev, the most generous giver! You gladly accept the sincere prayers of your humble servants.

Verse 26

सदा रहो शिव कृपा हमारी।हरहु पाप जनम जनम की भारी॥

Sada raho Shiv kripa hamaari.Harahu paap janam janam kee bhaari.

May your divine grace always remain upon us, destroying the heavy sins of countless past lifetimes.

Verse 27

भोलेनाथ तुम ही सुख सागर।दया करहु प्रभु ज्ञान उजागर॥

Bholenath tum hee sukh saagar.Daya karahu prabhu gyaan ujaagar.

O Bholenath, you are the ocean of eternal bliss! Show mercy and illuminate our minds with divine wisdom.

Verse 28

दुःख दरिद्र सब दूर हटाओ।सुख सम्पत्ति घर में बरसाओ॥

Dukh daridra sab door hataao.Sukh sampatti ghar mein barsaao.

Drive away all our sorrows, sickness, and poverty. Shower peace, health, and prosperity upon our homes.

Verse 29

अद्भुत रूप सोहे कैलासा।सदा करहु भक्तन उर वासा॥

Adbhut roop sohe Kailasa.Sada karahu bhaktan ur vaasa.

Your wondrous form looks magnificent on Mount Kailash. Please always make your divine home in the hearts of your devotees.

Verse 30

काल भैरव रूप कराला।दुष्ट दलन जय शम्भु दयाला॥

Kaal Bhairav roop karaala.Dusht dalan jai Shambhu dayaala.

Manifesting as the fierce Kaal Bhairav, you destroy all evil. Victory to the compassionate Shambhu!

Verse 31

नाथ निरञ्जन जगत स्वामी।घट घट के तुम अन्तर्यामी॥

Naath niranjan jagat swaami.Ghat ghat ke tum antaryaami.

O pure, stainless Lord of the cosmos! You are the all-knowing witness dwelling in every single soul.

Verse 32

विषय विकार सब दूर भगाओ।भक्ति प्रेम की अविरल गंगा बहाओ॥

Vishay vikaar sab door bhagaao.Bhakti prem kee aviral Ganga bahaao.

Drive away all worldly desires and impurities. Flow a continuous stream of pure love and devotion in our hearts.

Verse 33

जय जय शिव भोला भण्डारी।विपदा हरो प्रभु शङ्कटहारी॥

Jai Jai Shiv Bhola Bhandari.Vipada haro prabhu sankathaari.

Victory, victory to Lord Shiva, the simple, kind-hearted giver! Remove all our hardships, O destroyer of dangers.

Verse 34

शरणागत हम दया कीजिये।चरणन की सेवा वर दीजिये॥

Sharanagat hum daya keejiye.Charanan kee seva var deejiye.

We seek your shelter; please show compassion and grant the ultimate boon of serving your lotus feet.

Verse 35

शिव चालीसा जो नित गावे।मनवांछित फल निश्चय पावे॥

Shiv Chalisa jo nit gaave.Manvaanchhit phal nishchay paave.

Whoever recites this Shiva Chalisa daily surely obtains the fulfillment of all their heart's desires.

Verse 36

धूप दीप से आरती उतारे।ताको शिवजी संकट तारे॥

Dhoop deep se aarti utaare.Taako Shivji sankat taare.

Whoever performs your aarti with incense and holy lamps is safely guided across all crises by Lord Shiva.

Verse 37

जन्म जन्म के दुःख मिट जाये।शिवलोक को परम पद पाये॥

Janm janm ke dukh mit jaaye.Shivlok ko param pad paaye.

The sorrows of countless births are completely erased, and one attains the supreme spiritual state in Shiva's abode.

Verse 38

कहत अयोध्यादास कर जोरी।करहु कृपा प्रभु विपदा मोरी॥

Kahat Ayodhyadas kar jori.Karahu kripa prabhu vipada mori.

Ayodhyadas prays with folded hands: O Lord, show mercy and destroy all my trials.

Verse 39

धूप दीप नैवेद्य चढ़ावे।शंकर सम्मुख पाठ सुनावे॥

Dhoop deep naivedya chadhaave.Shankar sammukh paath sunaave.

Whoever offers holy incense, lamps, and sweets, and recites this prayer directly before Lord Shankara...

Verse 40

जन्म जन्म के पाप नसावे।शिवलोक को परम पद पावे॥

Janm janm ke paap nasaave.Shivlok ko param pad paave.

Erases the accumulated sins of many lifetimes and attains the supreme spiritual state in Shiva's abode.

Verse 41

जो यह पढ़े शिव चालीसा।होय सिद्ध साखी गौरीसा॥

Jo yeh padhe Shiv Chalisa.Hoy siddh saakhi Gaurisa.

Whoever reads this Shiva Chalisa achieves high spiritual accomplishments, with Lord Shiva (Gaurisa) himself as witness.

Verse 42

विश्वनाथ मम संकट हरो, कीजे कृपा अपार।चरण शरण में राखिये, प्रभु तारणहार॥

Vishwanath mam sankat haro, keeje kripa apaar.Charan sharan mein raakhiye, prabhu taaranhaar.

O Lord of the Universe, remove my troubles and shower infinite mercy. Keep me in the shelter of your feet, O Savior Lord.

Verse 43

मंगल मूर्ति मारुति नन्दन, संकट हरन गिरिजापति।सदा बसहु मम हृदय में, गौरी सुत गणपति॥

Mangal moorti Maruti nandan, sankat haran Girijapati.Sada basahu mam hriday mein, Gauri sut Ganapati.

O auspicious Hanuman, O savior Shiva (husband of Girija)! Always dwell in my heart together with Ganesha, the son of Goddess Gauri.
