Significance
Ganga Dussehra celebrates the descent of the holy river Ganga from the heavens to the earth. It is said that on this day, Ganga Mata descended to purify the souls of the ancestors of King Bhagiratha. Bathing in the Ganga on this day is believed to wash away ten types of sins (Dasha-Hara).

Sacred Bath
If possible, take a dip in the River Ganga. If at home, add a few drops of Gangajal to your bathing water and meditate on the river.

Arghya Offering
Offer water to the Sun God (Surya) while standing in or near water, as Ganga is also related to the celestial path of the Sun.
Deep Daan
In the evening, light a lamp and float it in a river or place it near your water source at home while chanting Ganga Aarti.
Fasting
Many devotees observe a fast on this day, consuming only water or fruits. Some practice "Nirjala" fast to honor the purity of the river.
Family Guidance
Explain to children the importance of water conservation and the sacredness of rivers in Vedic culture. Tell them the story of King Bhagiratha's persistence (Bhagiratha Prayatna).
