Chapter 8, Verse 6 · Power of Last Thought
यं यं वापि स्मरन्भावं त्यजत्यन्ते कलेवरम् ।तं तमेवैति कौन्तेय सदा तद्भावभावितः ॥
Yaṃ yaṃ vāpi smaran bhāvaṃ tyajaty ante kalevaramTaṃ tam evaiti Kaunteya sadā tad-bhāva-bhāvitaḥ
Whatever state of being one remembers when he gives up the body at the time of death — that state he will attain without fail.
Chapter 8, Verse 7 · Constant Remembrance
तस्मात्सर्वेषु कालेषु मामनुस्मर युध्य च ।मय्यर्पितमनोबुद्धिर्मामेवैष्यस्यसंशयः ॥
Tasmāt sarveṣu kāleṣu mām anusmara yudhya caMayy arpita-mano-buddhir mām evaiṣyasy asaṃśayaḥ
Therefore, remember Me at all times and fight. With your mind and intelligence surrendered to Me, you shall come to Me — without doubt.
Chapter 8, Verse 3 · Brahman, Self and Karma Defined
अक्षरं ब्रह्म परमं स्वभावोऽध्यात्ममुच्यते ।भूतभावोद्भवकरो विसर्गः कर्मसंज्ञितः ॥
Akṣaraṃ brahma paramaṃ svabhāvo'dhyātmam ucyateBhūta-bhāvodbhava-karo visargaḥ karma-saṃjñitaḥ
The Supreme indestructible is Brahman. Its nature in each individual being is called the Self. The creative force that causes beings to come into existence is called karma.
Chapter 8, Verse 9 · Meditation on the Supreme
कविं पुराणमनुशासितारमणोरणीयांसमनुस्मरेद्यः ।सर्वस्य धातारमचिन्त्यरूपमादित्यवर्णं तमसः परस्तात् ॥
Kaviṃ purāṇam anuśāsitāraṃ aṇor aṇīyāṃsam anusmared yaḥSarvasya dhātāram acintya-rūpam āditya-varṇaṃ tamasaḥ parastāt
One who meditates on the Omniscient, the Ancient, the Controller, smaller than the smallest, sustainer of everything, whose form is inconceivable, luminous like the sun and beyond darkness.
Chapter 8, Verse 13 · The Power of Om at Death
ओमित्येकाक्षरं ब्रह्म व्याहरन्मामनुस्मरन् ।यः प्रयाति त्यजन्देहं स याति परमां गतिम् ॥
Om ity ekākṣaraṃ brahma vyāharan mām anusmaranYaḥ prayāti tyajan dehaṃ sa yāti paramāṃ gatim
One who departs from this world chanting the single syllable Om — the supreme combination of letters — while remembering Me, attains the supreme destination.
Chapter 8, Verse 16 · Beyond the Cycle of Rebirth
आब्रह्मभुवनाल्लोकाः पुनरावर्तिनोऽर्जुन ।मामुपेत्य तु कौन्तेय पुनर्जन्म न विद्यते ॥
Ā-brahma-bhuvanāl lokāḥ punar āvartino'rjunaMām upetya tu Kaunteya punar janma na vidyate
From the highest planet in the material world down to the lowest, all are places of misery wherein repeated birth and death takes place. But one who attains My abode never takes birth again.
