Vidhi — How to Observe
- Bring home a clay idol of Lord Ganesha on Chaturthi morning with reverence and chanting.
- Perform the Pranapratishtha (life-installation ritual) to invite the Lord's divine presence into the idol.
- Offer modaks (sweet rice dumplings), red flowers, durva grass, and sandalwood paste.
- Light a ghee lamp with five wicks and incense of sandalwood.
- Recite the Ganapati Atharvasheersham and Ganesha Chalisa.
- Read or listen to the Ganesh Chaturthi Vrat Katha.
- Do not look at the moon on Chaturthi night — this is strictly prohibited.
- After 1.5, 5, 7, or 10 days, perform the Visarjan (immersion) ceremony with music and devotion.
