- Before sunrise, eat the Sargi meal prepared by your mother-in-law — sweets, fruits, and snacks for the dawn.
- Take the vow of the Karwa Chauth fast: no food or water from sunrise until moonrise.
- Dress in bridal or auspicious attire — red or orange saree, full jewellery, sindoor, and mehendi.
- In the evening, gather with other women and listen to the Karwa Chauth Vrat Katha.
- Perform the puja with the Karwa (clay pot of water), a sieve, lighted diya, sweets, and flowers.
- After moonrise, view the moon through a sieve and then see your husband's face through the sieve.
- Your husband offers you the first sip of water and the first morsel of food to break the fast.
- Touch the feet of elders and seek their blessings for a long and happy married life.
