- Wake before sunrise on Saturday and bathe with sesame seeds mixed in the water.
- Wear black, dark blue, or navy clothing on this day.
- Visit a Shani temple if possible, or set up Shani Dev's image at home.
- Offer sesame seeds (til), sesame oil (til oil), black cloth, black urad dal, and iron items.
- Light a sesame oil lamp and incense of mustard or sesame.
- Fast throughout the day — eat only once in the evening with black sesame, black dal, or simple sattvic food.
- Read or listen to the Shanivar Vrat Katha.
- Donate black sesame, black cloth, mustard oil, or iron to the needy or at a Shani temple.
